The Anacortes Early Release Enrichment program is presented in partnership between the Anacortes School District and Western Washington University's Shannon Point Marine Center. Students will experience hands-on science and art activities at Island View Elementary and take a field trip to Western Washington University's Shannon Point Marine Center on the last day.
Each day will focus on a different marine phylum. Students will learn an in-depth life history of marine organisms found in the Pacific Northwest, and their congener species found around the world.
- Develop an understanding of marine organisms’ life cycles, and physical characteristics.
- Become familiar with the marine habitats that organisms inhabit, and predator-prey interactions.
- Begin to recognize the similarities and differences of congener species.
Students are asked to bring:
- A rain jacket
- A healthy snack
- A water bottle
- A curious mind
